Connecticut is the latest state to create a full public financing program for all statewide candidates; their legislature pass the law in 2005, and this election cycle--2008--is the first time it will go into full effect. This means that every candidate for state senate, state house, governor, etc, can run using full public financing under Connecticut's "Citizens Election Program."
Connecticut Common Cause and their allies are working diligently to make sure voters and candidates know how the program works. They've got educational events set up--usually hosted by a group or organization, like the social workers or the local chamber of commerce--during Action Week and continuing afterwards.
Check the calendar of events to find one near you and stop by. They'll walk through the state's Citizens Elections Program and also describe the growing effort to extend this type of program to Congress, as embodied in the Fair Elections Now Act.
And in particular, if you're in the Hartford area, swing by the National Association of Social Workers on Wed, April 16th at 5:30pm to learn more. (Click on the event on our map and you can get address/directions info.)
