On Tom DeLay, it's what's legal that's the scandal

Today, the Department of Justice announced that it would drop its investigation into former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas). Campaign for Fair Elections Campaign Manager had this to say:

“The decision by the Department of Justice to drop its criminal investigation into former Majority Leader Tom DeLay’s relationship with convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff is further evidence that the scandal is not what is illegal, but rather what is legally permitted each and every day in Washington.

The Hill, Fox News, and others have quoted him so far today.

Just like with the PMA lobbying scandal or John Boehner's "cash for speaker" program, our political system thrives on conflicts of interest, and until Congress passes the Fair Elections Now Act, it'll only get worse.
